Planet Ocean Awarded Contract for Satlantic Buoy Instrument Package

Planet Ocean, Satlantic’s United Kingdom representative, has recently announced the sale of two Satlantic STOR-X buoy instrumentation packages to Plymouth Marine Laboratory.
The buoy systems will be deployed in the South Western approaches and provide continuous monitoring of two historical stations L4 (10 nautical miles south of Plymouth) and E1 (25 nautical miles south of Plymouth), which have been sampled for almost a century. The data produced by these buoys will form part of the Western Channel Observatory, which is investigating ecosystem dynamics linking to model enhancement and providing data for model and satellite validation. The buoys are scheduled for deployment in spring 2008 and will provide real-time data to the observatory website.
The PML STOR-X system provides scheduled data acquisition and logging for the suite of Satlantic optical sensors, ISUS Nitrate analyzers, and meteorological and water quality packages. The STOR-X controls data acquisition, and storage as well as passing the data to the telemetry systems. The buoys will provide a core measurement suite but also provide a platform for future instrument development and testing. The STOR-X logger will provide 8 digital and 4 analogue ports for this purpose with live telemetry to shore via a UHF communication system. For more info visit the Planet Ocean website.
