The River, Estuary and Coastal Observing Network (RECON) has officially launched their new website which provides real-time data about the Caloosahatchee river and estuary. Scientists, policy makers, and the general public are now able to log on to http://recon.sccf.org/ to view real-time, and archived water quality data.

The RECON network is composed of seven Land/Ocean Biogeochemical Observatory (LOBO) sensors. Originally developed by Dr. Ken Johnson's team at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, the LOBO was designed to create a real time sensor network for aquatic systems. This unique system uses a system of high quality, high temporal resolution in situ sensors to monitor fluxes. Water properties such as salinity, temperature, and current velocity are combined with nutrient measurements to monitor important processes that affect biogeochemistry.
